PARKVILLE, Mo. - Kansas Wesleyan University Men's Volleyball went on a hot streak with two clean sweep wins in the Park Invitational Tournament.
The Coyotes started the day with a mid-morning match up against the Tigers of Central Christian College of Kansas, where they ran away with scores of 25-14, 25-9, 25-13.
The Coyotes and the Tigers started the game trading a few points each bringing the score to 3-3. Then all of a sudden Kansas Wesleyan went on a 7-0 run to take the score to 10-3 KWU. Coyotes would go on another 5 point run curiosity of three service aces by Jonnatan Batiz-Olivas to put KWU up 17-8. The Tigers had no answer as the Coyotes went on another four point run to end the first set 25-14.
Coyotes kept their foot on the gas for set two as they went on a 5-0 run to start the set with strong defense that forced attack errors on the Tigers. KWU counted to dominate the net and went on to win set two 25-9.
Set three was a similar story as the Coyotes continued their trend of making Central Christian uncomfortable at the net and a handful of service aces form Jeremy Lapeze and Bradley Neff to lead the Coyotes to win set three with a score of 25-13 to sucre the sweep, winning the first game of the day at 3-0.
The Coyotes had a short rest had to get the legs and shoulders loose once again as they faced off against the University of Jamestown Jimmies. With the 2:00PM start time for the first set and for game two of the day.
KWU kept the same confidence, intensity, and teamwork to put themselves ahead of UM. KWU found themselves in a close one to start only leading by one at 13-12. The Coyotes then out together a five point run to lead the Jimmies 17-12 after a three kills in a row by KWU's Copper Stepp. The Coyotes carried this momentum to win set one 25-16.
Set two found the Coyotes in a battle to the end as a back in forth set came down to the clutch genes of Zayin Martinez and Justin Burras all from greats sets made by Ethan Rickets. The Coyotes stole set 25-23 with the Jimmies on their heals to take the game to 2-0.
Set three was another barn burner as the game of runs would find the the Coyotes being foreced to call timeout as the Jimmies took the lead 23-22 after a two point swing by UM. No fear in the KWU huddle was present as the Coyotes came out of the timeout and put together a three point run with a Jamestown service error, and clutch block by Justin Burras and Colin Lindo, and finally Jaron Lindsay forcing another attack error for UM to capture the third set 25-23 and secure the 3-0 win for the match.
Kansas Wesleyan finishes the Park Invitational 2-2, with losses to Westcliff University and Goshen College. But finishing it out with two sweeps over Central Christian College and University of Jamestown.
