McPHERSON – Kansas Wesleyan outscored Central Christian 14-2 in the first quarter and cruised to a 62-39 win to remain unbeaten on Wednesday at the Pyle Sports Complex.
Wesleyan jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start the game before Central Christian scored with 5:27 left in the first quarter. Gabby Mureeba (JR/Allen, Texas)'s 3 pointer with 5:07 left made it 7-2 and the Coyotes made it 14-2 with 34 seconds left on a 3 pointer by Sydney Barrett (JR/Beloit).
The Coyotes saw Central Christian get within seven in the second quarter but the Tigers got no closer as Caila Hill (JR/Rossville) gave the Coyotes a 29-14 lead with 2:26 to go in the half, and KWU took a 29-17 lead into the break.
Wesleyan pushed its lead out to 41-26 after three quarters but pulled away to as much as a 25 point lead in the fourth at 62-37 before the 62-39 final.
Mureeba scored 19 to lead all scorers in the game as KWU shot 40.4 percent from the field. Emily Rank (SR/Kansas City) and Kelcey Hinz (SR/Whitewater) had seven rebounds each to lead the Coyotes to a 42-27 advantage on the boards.
The Coyotes are back on the road on Saturday, heading to Fayette, Mo., to take on No. 17 Central Methodist at 2 p.m.
