Kansas Wesleyan Women's Soccer continued its strong start to the KCAC season as the Coyotes came away with a 3-0 win over the Ottawa University Braves on Saturday at JRI Hospitality Stadium at the Graves Family Sports Complex.
The victory boosted KWU's record to 6-4-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the KCAC.
Brooklyn Velotta got the Coyotes on the board in the 23rd minute as she intercepted a pass by the Ottawa back line and hit the shot towards the open goal after Ottawa's keeper came off her line to try to corral the ball on the pass before Velotta intercepted it.
The Coyotes had another golden chance at a goal in the 27th minute when Wendy Zamudio sent a ball over the middle to Velotta again who outran the Ottawa defenders, but was knocked down by an Ottawa defender from behind on the breakaway, denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity, but no foul was called against the Braves.
KWU carried the 1-0 lead into the half.
The Coyotes added two goals in the second half. Kendall Davis netted the first in the 52nd minute cleaning up a rebound off Victoria Poon's initial shot.
Velotta netted another goal in the 76th minute, again intercepting an Ottawa pass and fighting past a defender before shooting to the right upper 90 for the goal.
The Coyotes outshot Ottawa 12-4 in the match. Velotta had four shots to lead the Coyotes. Bianka Waxman had one save while recording the clean sheet.
