ASSARIA -- A car stolen Thursday morning in Assaria was later recovered at a north Salina hotel, however, the whereabouts of the keys and the thief remain a mystery.
Saline County Sheriff's Captain Jim Hughes said this morning that deputies were sent to the 100 block of Cox Way in Assaria for the report of a stolen vehicle.
The victim told deputies that he had gone outside at 6:30 a.m. Thursday to warm up his silver 1991 Oldsmobile Aurora, and while it was warming up, returned inside to get ready for work, Hughes said. The man said he heard the car pull away and went outside to see it drive off. The car was valued at $1,700, Hughes said.
Approximately an hour later, the car was found at the SureStay Hotel, 1846 North Ninth Street in Salina, Hughes said. It was not occupied at the time it was located.
According to Hughes, there was no damage to the car, however, the key and key fob -- valued at $100 -- are missing. The car was returned to its owner, he said.
