Proclamations, an SPD presentation, and jail presentation on city agenda

Proclamations, a presentation about the jail, and the emergency communication system are among the Salina City Commission agenda for Monday.

Commissioners are scheduled to begin with a study session at 2 p.m. in the Great Plains Manufacturing Conference Hall South (formerly Heritage Hall South) of Tony's Pizza Events Center, 800 The Midway. The topic of the study session is a Salina Police Department presentation regarding the Citizen Review Board and 1033 Surplus Property Program. The study session was moved to TPEC to accommodate the anticipated crowd and allow for appropriate social distancing.

The regular commission meeting is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. Monday in room 107 of the City-County Building, 300 West Ash Street. A time for public comment is scheduled near the beginning of the meeting.

Commissioners are being asked for two proclamations. They are as follows.

Proclaim the month of September 2020 as Big Brothers Big Sisters Month in the City of Salina.

Proclaim the week of Sept. 17-23, 2020 as Constitution Week in the City of Salina.

During the regular meeting, Saline County Administrator Phillip Smith-Hanes and Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan are scheduled to make an informational presentation to the city commissioners about the propose Saline County Jail project. There is no city expense related to this item on the agenda.

Other items on the city agenda for Monday include the following.

●Commissioners are scheduled to hear the first reading of a proposed ordinance authorizing the execution of a loan agreement between the city and the State of Kansas for the purpose of financing improvements to the city's water distribution system.

●Commissioners are scheduled to consider authorizing the mayor to execute a communications system and services agreement with Motorola Solutions, Inc., for delivery, installation, on-going maintenance and asset management services related to the emergency communications dispatch infrastructure, Hardware and software, and portable and handheld communications radios.
