Following an opening round that saw five of our nine area schools eliminated, just four teams remained in the round of 16 this week.

Of those four schools, three saw their seasons come to an end, while one will advance to the state quarterfinals next week.

Here is a look at every school's fate after another Friday of playoff football.

Salina Central 21, Wichita Northwest 66

For a second straight season, the Mustangs met an unfortunate end at the hands of the Wichita Northwest Grizzlies.

With 5:06 left to play in the second quarter, Parker Kavanagh connected with Hayden Vidrickson for a touchdown to cut the deficit to six, but the Grizzlies poured on 39 unanswered points to win it big in front of their home crowd.

Central ends their season a very respectable 7-3, while Wichita Northwest advances to the quarterfinals for a rematch with Kapaun Mt. Carmel

Southeast of Saline 52, Chapman 6

Southeast of Saline remains one of just five undefeated teams in Class 3A, after a resounding defeat of the Chapman Fighting Irish at home.

The Trojan defense held an Irish rushing attack that averaged 364 yards a game this season to just 157 yards and kept Chapman's offense out of the end zone for the full four quarters.

The Irish wrap up their season at 7-3 while Southeast advances to the quarterfinals to face Cheney in a battle of 10-0 teams.

Ell-Saline 6, Sedgwick 33

The Ell-Saline Cardinals battled valiantly against a Sedgewick team that defeated them 55-12 earlier this season, but still came up short as the Cardinals of Sedgwick remain undefeated in 2021.

Sedgewick will advance to the quarterfinals to face 9-1 Smith Center while Ell-Saline wraps up their 2021 campaign at 4-6.
