June 3, 1928 - September 19, 2021

Arlene Jean Barrett, 93, of Lost Springs, formerly of Herington, danced through heaven’s gates on September 19, 2021, at Herington Municipal Hospital.

Arlene was born on June 3, 1928, in Latimer, KS to William Frank Ohm and Martha Emma Johanna Pegorsch. She attended school at the Lutheran Parochial School, then the school in Latimer.

Prior to marriage she cleaned houses, apartments and worked at the Herington Air Base. After marriage she worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for her and Lloyd’s business, Barrett Plumbing.

On July 24, 1948, she married the love of her life, Lloyd Barrett at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Herington. They spent 49 wonderful years together before his passing in 1997. To this marriage was born a daughter, Marsha, with whom Arlene lived with in Lost Springs the last 13 months of her life.

Arlene, lovingly known to family as “Madam Queen,” was an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. She loved to garden, play checkers, dominoes, and cards. She also loved to embroider, dance and sing silly songs. Arlene’s favorite meal was fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, but her signature meal was chicken noodle soup, deviled eggs, and peanut butter cookies. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, who loved spending time with her family.

Arlene is survived by her daughter Marsha Pagenkopf (Mark), of Lost Springs, KS; grandchildren Holly Stenfors of Ormond Beach, FL, Kelly (Leanne) Wonser of Goessel, KS, Mark (Julie) Pagenkopf II of Lincolnville, KS; great-grandchildren Amanda (Michael) Patterson of Herington, KS, Hannah (Matthew) Calisi of Daytona Beach, FL, Logan, Adam, Dawson Wonser of Goessel, KS, Marlie Pagenkopf and Weston Pagenkopf of Lincolnville, KS; and great-great-grandchildren Sadie Patterson of Herington KS, Sage and Hazel Calisi of Daytona Beach, FL. She is also survived by her brother Robert Ohm and wife Fran of Wichita, KS.

She is preceded in death by her parents, brother Billy Ohm, and her loving husband Lloyd.

Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Herington Chapel is serving the family.

A private family memorial service is planned for September 25, 2021, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Herington, KS at 10:30 a.m. Memorial contributions in Arlene’s name can be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church at 802 E.
