A pickup stolen in Salina was recovered in Omaha, Neb., and a suspect is in custody.
A 70-year-old Salina man, who drives and acquires cars for Conklin Cars, 2700 South Ninth Street, had parked his 2006 GMC Sierra pickup inside the secured area of Conklin's lot on July 8, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester reported this morning. The next day, the man was notified that his pickup had been stolen and was located in Omaha, Neb., Forrester explained. Additionally, a subject was in custody, he noted.
When officers went to Conklin Cars while working on the case, they were notified of a possible stolen vehicle -- a Chevrolet Silverado 3500 -- that had been left on the nearby parking lot of Mike’s Rent to Own, 2670 Planet Avenue, according to Forrester. It turns out that vehicle was stolen from Rhett Steven's Motor Company in Amarillo, Texas, he noted.
Forrester explained that it appears the subject stole the Silverado in Texas and then stopped in Salina and stole the Sierra before being apprehended in Omaha. Charges are pending in both cases, he added.
