The Rev. Dr. Max Eldon Murrison, son of William A. and Lillian B. Murrison, was born on April 3, 1930, and was called "home: on May 6, 2021. He lived in Caldwell, Kansas and graduated from Caldwell High School.
He attended Kansas University and was a member of the KU concert and marching band, and the Delta Chi Fraternity. He received a B.S. degree from Oklahoma University.
He earned a D.D.S. and master of science degree in oral and maxillofacial Surgery from Kansas City Western Dental School, now the University of Missouri Dental School. After graduation, he joined a large medical clinic in St. Joseph, Missouri.
He moved to Salina in 1967 and established his oral and maxillofacial surgery practice and retired in 2006.
He was a Fellow and life member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (AAMOS), a delegate for Kansas in the House of Delegates and served as sergeant of arms in the House of Delegates of the AAMOS. He is a life member of the American Dental Association, a past president and life member of the Midwestern Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, a past member of the International College of Surgeons, a life member of the Kansas Dental Association, a life member of the Northwest Golden Belt Dental Association, and secretary-treasurer of the Kansas Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons for 35 years, receiving an honorary certificate and plaque. He was awarded a life membership in the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and Traumatic Facial Plastic Surgeons. He received the honorary as the “Outstanding Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon” for leadership and community involvement in 2007.
He was a member of the Scottish Rite of Salina, and a member of the Isis Pipes and Drums. He was a member of the Salina Symphony for 30 years playing the oboe and the English horn.
He was ordained in the Holy Orders of the Deaconate at Christ Episcopal Cathedral and had the honor of being a member of the Western Diocese Council of the Episcopal Church for two terms, two terms of the Council of Ministry, and a member of the vestry of Christ Episcopal Cathedral for two terms.
He served as a chaplain for the Saline County community corrections, and as a visiting chaplain for Narcotic Anonymous for a short period of time and volunteered at the Salina Rescue Mission.
He is preceded in death by his mother Lillian, his father “Bill”, his stepmother Gladys, and sister Lola. He is survived by his wife Merrilyn; daughter Suzan Murrison, Manhattan, KS; sons Steven Michael Murrison, Salina, and Mark (Tracy) Murrison of Boca Raton, FL; grandsons Clayton Brentt Murrison and James Nathan Murrison of Salina, Luke Murrison and Sam Murrison, of Boca Raton, FL; granddaughters Alisha Lewis (Scott), Wylie, TX, Anna Kate Murrison and Molly Murrison, Boca Raton, FL; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, May 10, at Ryan Mortuary, family present from 5:30-7 p.m. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2021 at Christ Episcopal Cathedral, 138 South 8th St., Salina, KS. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, Salina, KS.
