Local law enforcement personnel are looking for the person who stole a car from north Salina late Monday night or early Tuesday morning. The car was later involved in a brief pursuit within city limits.
At approximately 1:03 p.m. Monday, an officer on patrol attempted to perform a traffic stop for speeding on a red 2003 Buick Century in the 1000 block of W. State Street. The Buick fled and the officer pursued it for four blocks.
While fleeing the scene, the red Buick struck a 2006 Buick Lucerne that was parked in the 100 block of N. Phillips Avenue.
According to Salina Police Seargent Tonniges, the suspect vehicle continued through a residential yard and struck a power pole.
"The driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot. He was not located," Tonniges said.
Officers contacted the registered owner of the red Buick and learned the vehicle was stolen from the 300 block of N. Columbia sometime after 12:00 AM on 07/24/2023.
Officers have developed a suspect and are following up to locate him.
