KANSAS CITY, Mo.—The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have agreed to terms on minor league contracts with 28 international free agents to mark the largest international free agent class in franchise history.
The group includes 20 players from the Dominican Republic, three from Venezuela, two from Colombia and Mexico and one from Aruba. In total, the Royals agreed to terms with 12 right-handed pitchers, four left-handed pitchers, four outfielders, four shortstops, two catchers, one third baseman and one first baseman.
Among the group of 28 includes Colombian catcher Juan David Olmos and Dominican outfielder Henry Ramos, who rank No. 25 and No. 45, respectively, on MLB.com’s Top 50 International Prospects list. Olmos is the nephew of Royals scout Rafael Miranda. Also of note is Dominican first baseman Manuel German, who is the cousin of Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Major League Baseball and the Players Association finalized a deal in March 2020 to address the international signing period during the pandemic. The 2022 international signing period runs through Dec. 15, 2022. The complete list of Kansas City’s 28 international free agents is below:
