Salina police are investigating two instances of shots fired on Wednesday night and early this morning.

In the first instance, officers were sent to the 3000 block of Castle Court in southwest Salina at approximately 8:25 p.m. Wednesday for the report of a residence being shot, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester reported this morning.

When officers arrived on the scene, a 28-year-old Salina man told them that his residence had been shot six times. The man, who was not injured, said he was in bed when he heard what he described as an explosion and saw drywall dust in the air near his closet, Forrester said. He also found another hole inside the closet.

While inspecting the exterior of the house, he discovered six bullet holes. According to Forrester, one of the rounds had gone through the wall and entered the back of the refrigerator. Total damage was estimated at $2,000.

Then, at approximately 12:50 a.m., officers were sent to the 1500 block of Bachtold Avenue in west Salina for the report of shots fired. Upon arrival, one of the officers saw what appeared to be damage from a bullet on the north side of a residence, Forrester noted.

The man who lived in the residence told police that he had heard gun shots from the southeast side of his house. He reported hearing three gunshots, a car door closing, and then a vehicle taking off southbound on Sycamore Street. Damage to the residence was estimated at $100.

Officers located a total of four 9mm shell casings from the area of the intersection of Bachtold Avenue and Sycamore Street, Forrester noted.

Video from the neighborhood showed what appeared to be a white Mitsubishi Eclipse two-door vehicle with a black top driving westbound on Bachtold Avenue and then southbound on Sycamore Street.

At this time, police do not believe the two incidents are related, Forrester reported.
