Private William Hiers, a recent graduate of Salina Central High School, has officially begun his career with the United States Marine Corps. Hier was recruited by Staff Seargeant David Pacheco.

Pacheco first met Hiers in December 2023 after his supervisor initially made contact with the young recruit.

“I coordinated with his school counselor, and we sat down to discuss everything the Marine Corps had to offer," said Pacheco.

Hiers, like many recruits, took time to consider his decision before ultimately committing.

"If they do pass the ASVAB test, that's when we sit down and go into more detail," Pacheco said. "He actually did commit, after that conversation, to joining the Marine Corps."

Hiers officially signed his contract with the United States Marine Corps on December 11.

Hiers departed for Marine Corps boot camp just days later.

Boot camp, which lasted 13 weeks, saw Hiers undergo rigorous training before completing this first phase of his military career. His graduation from boot camp took place on September 6, 2024.

Now, Hiers moves forward to additional training, where he will specialize in logistics. His role will involve managing the movement and coordination of resources within the Marine Corps, a critical responsibility for ensuring the effectiveness of military operations.

Pacheco spoke about the process of recruiting young people like Hier into the armed forces.

"It’s all about finding those who are qualified and providing them with the opportunity to explore their options," said Pacheco.

On behalf of Salina Post, congratulations to Private William Hiers and his family on this significant achievement.
