A Salina man was cited for disorderly conduct after he allegedly threatened a girl running an errand Thursday.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning that at her mother's request, an 11-year-old girl was delivering an item to her grandmother's house a few blocks away.

When she was in the area of W. Grand Avenue and N. Seventh Street, a man, identified as John Sturgis, 57, of Salina, came out of his residence in the 600 block of N. Seventh Street and allegedly started yelling at the girl and threatening to do her harm, Forrester said. The girl ran to her grandmother's house.

A neighbor who witnessed the event did not hear what was said but provided a description that matched what the girl told police, Forrester said.

Sturgis was issued a notice to appear in court for disorderly conduct, Forrester said.
