Salina Police Department (SPD) officers are investigating a shooting that occurred early Friday morning in the parking lot of a convenience store in the 1600 block of South Ninth Street.
According to Salina Police Captain James Feldman, officers responded to Salina Regional Health Center at approximately 1 a.m. after a 25-year-old Salina man arrived with a gunshot wound to his arm. The injury was determined to be non-life-threatening, but the victim was transferred to a Wichita hospital for surgery.
According to SPD, the victim gave a ride to, “an unidentified Black male with dreadlocks.” The victim told officers he was not familiar with the individual, who he had picked up from a residence in north Salina. During the ride, the two began arguing. Feldman said it is unclear at this time what started the argument. The dispute escalated when the passenger allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the victim. The shooter then fled the scene on foot.
The shooting allegedly occurred in the parking lot of the Quick Shop at 1600 South Ninth Street. Police are actively investigating and are seeking witnesses or additional information.
Charges for the suspect, if apprehended, could range from aggravated battery to attempted homicide, depending on the circumstances uncovered during the investigation.
