
A local man with an active warrant now faces additional requested charges after an incident Wednesday afternoon in north Salina.
At approximately 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, an officer with the Salina Police Department recognized Walter C. Shields in the area of North Fourth Street and Forest Avenue, Salina Police Captain Gary Hanus reported this morning. The officer confirmed that Shields had an active warrant. Shields was then arrested, put into handcuffs, searched, and placed in a patrol vehicle. While in handcuffs, Shields spat on an officer, Hanus noted.
During a search of Shield's property, items recognized as controlled substances were identified, he added.
Shields was arrested and booked into the Saline County Jail on the following requested charges, Hanus reported.
Battery of a law enforcement officer
Possession of an opiate, narcotic, or certain stimulant
Possession of marijuana
Possession of drug paraphernalia
No tax stamp
