Sub-state tournaments resumed today with nine of our area teams through to the second round and two in action on a relatively quiet Thursday evening.

The first game to go final featured the Sacred Heart boys team against Hutch Trinity in a game that saw the Celtics pull an upset of the Knights by a final score of 61-55.

Sacred Heart held a small lead at the half but it was taken back by Hutch Trinity who never relinquished it, thanks in large part to a 21 point night by Lucas Hammeke.

Jacob Gilliland led the Knights with 26 points but Sacred Heart wraps up its 2020-21 campaign with a final record of 15-4.

Hutch Trinity advances to face Hillsboro in the sub-state final on Saturday.

The only other game in the area saw the Southeast of Saline Lady Trojans on the road at Hesston, looking for a big win over the Lady Swathers.

SES trailed early but battled back and made a big push early in the fourth, but fell short by a final score of 49-39.

Southeast wraps up their season with an overall record of 15-7, made all the more impressive by the fact that they will not lose a single senior in the offseason.

Hesston advances to the tournament final to face Halstead at 2:00 on Saturday.

Tomorrow will feature a full slate of final and semi-final games beginning at 5:30pm.

5:30pm: Solomon boys vs. Sylvan-Lucas (semi final at Canton Galva)
7pm: Central girls vs. South girls (final at Central High School)
7pm: Abilene boys vs. Concordia (final at Abilene High School)
8pm: Southeast of Saline boys at Hesston (semi final at Hesston)
8pm: Sacred Heart girls at Moundridge (semi final at Ell-Saline High School)

The Salina South boys team will also be in action with a final at Hays on Saturday.

Be sure to stay tuned to the Salina Post for continuing coverage of our seven remaining area teams as we wrap up sub-state tournaments.
