SIOUX CITY, Iowa - Kansas Wesleyan's Alex Littlejohn was one assist short of a triple-double on Friday night as the Coyotes beat the Waldorf Warriors 85-74 in the Morningside Classic at Allee Gym.
Littlejohn, Wesleyan's all-everything player, finished with 19 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists on the night.
The Coyotes led 6-2 early in the game, but Waldorf took a brief 7-6 lead before the Coyotes went on a 12-0 run to take an 18-7 lead on Landon Wagler's 3-pointer with 13:32 left in the first.
Wesleyan stretched the lead out to 14 with 4:33 left in the half on a 3-pointer by Caden Hale before Waldorf cut the difference to 10 at the break.
KWU led by 12 with 17:16 left in the game when the Coyotes went on an 8-0 spurt to take a 53-33 lead on a three-point play by Evens Appolon with 16:11 left.
The Warriors cut the difference to 12 again with 11:14 left and the Coyotes responded yet at again with a 10-0 run to take their biggest lead of the night at 70-48 on a 3-pointer by Carson Jones with 9:48 to go.
Waldorf cut it to 11 with 1:25 left, but Easton Hunter's 3-pointer with 55 seconds left ended any suspense as the Coyotes closed it out on Jameer Clemons' free throws with 14 seconds left.
KWU was 32 of 63 shooting for 50.8 percent and 9 of 14 from 3-point range for 64.3 percent and 12 of 16 at the line. Littlejohn's 19 led the Coyotes, while Hunter had 15 and Appolon 12 to go along with nine rebounds. KWU outrebounded Waldorf 42-26.
