NWS: March was wetter, warmer in Salina

March averaged warm and wet for most across the region, according to the National Weather Service in Wichita.

In March, Salina saw four days with thunderstorms, two days with heavy rain, six days with rain, nine days with light rain, one day with light snow, and 10 days with fog, the weather service noted.

Temperature

The monthly average temperature was 49.7 degrees, 4.3 degrees above normal. The warmest temperature was 80 degrees on March 29, while the coldest temperature, 17 degrees, was reported on March 1, according to the weather service.

The record high for Salina is 96 degree on March 21, 1907. The record low is -11 degrees on March 11, 1948.

Wind

The weather service reported that the average wind speed in March in Salina was 13 mph. The highest sustained wind was 39 mph on March 30, while the highest gust was 58 mph on March 29.
