HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Candidates for Kansas governor and the U.S. Senate will debate during the opening weekend of the Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson.
The debates are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12, at the Heartland Credit Union Pavilion near the center of the fairgrounds. Both events will be open to the public, but fair admission will be required.
Republican Ty Masterson and Democrat Cindy Holscher will meet in the gubernatorial debate at 10:30 a.m. It will be their first debate since winning their respective party nominations in the August primary.
Masterson, of Andover, is president of the Kansas Senate. Holscher, of Overland Park, also serves in the state Senate. Although the two nominees have appeared together at candidate forums, they have not yet faced each other in a general election debate.
Republican U.S. Sen. Roger Marshall and Democratic challenger Adam Hamilton will debate at 1:30 p.m. It will be their first debate since Hamilton secured the Democratic nomination.
Marshall, a physician from Great Bend, served two terms in the U.S. House before being elected to the Senate in 2020. Hamilton is the senior pastor of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in the Kansas City area.
The Kansas State Fair runs Sept. 11-20 in Hutchinson. Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
