Big second half sends K-State women to 1,000th program victory

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Kansas State trailed at halftime against Wisconsin, but scored 47 points in the second half including 31 in the final quarter to secure a 77-63 win over the Badgers and the 1,000th win in program history during the Brew City Battle at the home of the Milwaukee Brewers - American Family Field.

K-State is the 19th NCAA Division I member of the 1,000 win club. K-State is one of four schools in the nation that have 1,000 program wins and its current head coach has 600 or more career victories (Stanford, Connecticut & NC State).

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Wisconsin (1-1) used a 14-2 run to build a 23-13 lead after the first quarter. K-State shot 22.2 percent (4-of-18) from the field in the opening frame.

- Kansas State (2-0) began its comeback in the second quarter with a 12-2 run to pull within three, 29-26, following a Gabby Gregory 3-pointer with 2:49 to play in the quarter. Aiding in the comeback was solid defense, as K-State held the Badgers to 21.4 percent (3-of-14) shooting from the field in the second quarter.

- The Wildcats shot just 28.1 percent (9-of-32) from the field in the first half

- K-State trailed by three at the half, 33-30, but dashed out of the locker room with an 11-0 run to take a 43-37 lead with 6:08 remaining in the third quarter. A left-handed layup from Rebekah Dallinger started the run and was followed quickly by three-pointers from Serena Sundell, Sarah Shematsi and Gregory to force a Badger timeout.

- Following the 11-0 run, K-State was 1-of-12 from the field to close the third quarter as the Badgers squared the game at 46 entering the final quarter.

- The Wildcats used a 7-1 run to begin the fourth quarter to open a 53-47 lead with 8:01 remaining. Jaelyn Glenn connected on her second 3-pointer of the afternoon to start the run.

- After the Badgers closed to witin five, 56-51, the Wildcats answered with an 8-1 run midway through the fourth as Jaelyn Glenn hit her third 3-pointer of the day and was followed by a three by Gregory and Jaelyn Glenn added a steal and layup to force a Wisconsin timeout with 4:37 to play.

- K-State iced the game from the foul line in the final two minutes, shooting 9-of-10 from the charity stripe.

- K-State had three players in double figures, led by Gregory's game-high 25 points and followed by 17 from Sundell and 16 from Jaelyn Glenn off the bench.

QUICK FACTS

- The series between the schools is tied at one game apiece. This was the second neutral site meeting in the series, as the teams also met in 2006 in Las Vegas.

- Kansas State improves to 73-60 all-time against current members of the Big Ten Conference.

- K-State is 3-4 all-time in games played in the state of Wisconsin.

- Friday's starting five was Sarah Shematsi, Serena Sundell, Brylee Glenn, Gabby Gregory and Emilee Ebert. This was the first time this group started a game.

- As a team, K-State made 10 three-pointers and are now 24-3 in the Jeff Mittie era when making 10 or more 3-pointers.

- Gabby Gregory tallied her 43rd career game in double figures and her second at K-State. This was Gregory's ninth career game with 20 or more points. This was her 30th career game with two or more connections from 3-point range.

- Serena Sundell notched her 20th career game in double figures.

- Jaelyn Glenn reached double figures for the second time this season and the eighth time in her career.
