K-State women's soccer places 10 on Academic All-Big 12

MANHATTAN – K-State soccer placed 10 student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, including a league-high seven recipients with 4.00 GPAs in an announcement by the league office on Wednesday.

In its six seasons of action, Kansas State has now received 69 Academic All-Big 12 citations including 60 first team honors.

K-State’s 10 student-athletes on the Academic All-Big 12 First Team were: senior Emily Crain, graduate student Brookelynn Entz, sophomore Erin Morrissey, junior Bailey Nemechek, sophomore Peyton Pearson, senior Maguire Sullivan, redshirt sophomore Caylee Thornhill, junior Shae Turner, sophomore Maddie Weichel and sophomore Alaina Werremeyer.

Crain, Entz, Morrissey, Pearson, Sullivan, Turner and Weicehl each were selected for the team with 4.0 grade point averages.

Entz, collected her fourth career honor. Crain, Nemechek and Sullivan earned their third career honors, while Thornhill and Turner earned their second career citation.

Nominated by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services, the women’s soccer academic all-league team consisted of 116 first team members combined with 12 on the second team. First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team are those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of her team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

This weekend, K-State will play its final Big 12 road game of the 2021 season on Friday, as the Wildcats travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to face 11th-ranked TCU.

The Wildcats will play their final regular season home game on Oct. 28, as K-State will host Iowa State at 7 p.m.
