Sacred Heart Junior/Senior High School began celebrating its Homecoming Week on Sunday, complete with daily themes, a Wednesday barbeque, and a Saturday evening dance to conclude the school spirit-filled week.
Students began decorating the halls for their "spirit week" Sunday afternoon, preparing the school for Homecoming.
The spirit themes include "Roll out of Bed" on Monday, "Dress as your Younger Self" on Tuesday, "Business on Top, Party on Bottom" on Wednesday, "Monochromatic" on Thursday and "Blue and Gold Day" on Friday.
Each day allows students to dress up within the theme, from pajamas on Monday to wearing school-themed clothing on Friday.
School staff will allow students to dress as they want within the school dress code.
The Barbeque
Sacred Heart will host multiple Homecoming festivities in the afternoon on Wednesday, finishing the evening with a barbeque at 6 p.m.
The royalty candidates will appear with other students, with games and celebrations to kick off the evening.
On Friday, Oct. 6, during the Sacred Heart football game against Wabunsee Junior and Senior High School, staff will coronate the winners during halftime.
The King and Queen Candidates
This year's queen candidates at Sacred Heart include seniors Avery Eshleman, Maegan Torrey, Sydney Goetz, Emma Roberts and Gracy Dorzweiler.
Sacred Heart's king candidates include Michael Matteucci, Evan Bogart, Cameron Yohe, Luca Adami and Andy Marshall
Each student stays involved in the school, varying from choral groups to sports.
Avery Eshleman
Avery is the daughter of Dan and Petey Eshleman. She has been involved in volleyball and basketball, lettering four years in both. She was also involved in softball for two years. She has participated in Jr. Civitan, SAFE, Relay for Life, FIAT, and CYO. This year, Avery is a co-editor of the yearbook, a co-captain of the Margaret Mary community, and a member of the Senior Cabinet. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has been on the High Honor Roll all four years at Sacred Heart. After graduation, Avery plans on attending Fort Hays State University to continue her volleyball career and study Nursing or Radiology.
Michael Matteucci
Michael is the son of Michael and Sara Matteucci. Michael has participated in football, basketball, and golf lettering all four years in each. He finished in first place at the 2023 2a state golf championship. He is also a member of S.A.F.E., Junior Civitan, and Chess Club. He is unsure what college to attend, but he plans to study physical therapy and hopes to play golf.
Maegan Torrey
Maegan is the daughter of Patrick and Sarah Torrey. She has been involved in Volleyball for three years, basketball and softball for four years, and lettering all four years. During high school, she has participated in Junior Civitan, FIAT, SAFE and is a member of the Senior cabinet. Maegan is on the leadership team for CYO and the Co-Captain for the Mother Teresa Community. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has been on the High Honor Roll all four years. Maegan’s future plans include attending a four-year university and pursuing a bachelor's degree in diagnostic medical sonography.
Evan Bogart
Evan is the son of Tyler and Angie Bogart. Evan has participated in football and baseball for four years and lettered all four years and basketball for four years, lettering for three of them. He is a member of the National Honor Society. He has been a junior Civitan for four years, Safe for 3 years and a house and community leader for two years. Evan would like to play baseball in college but is still undecided about college and a major.
Sydney Goetz
Sydney is the daughter of Melissa and Terry Goetz. She has participated and lettered in both Volleyball and Basketball for 4 years. She was involved in track for 2 years, lettering both years and earning one state medal. Sydney is a Senior leader in the Margaret Mary community, on the CYO leadership council, a member of the National Honor Society, and has been on the high honor roll all four years at Sacred Heart. She is also a member of S.A.F.E, Fiat, Pep band, Relay for Life, and Jr. Civitain. After graduation, Sydney plans to attend Kansas State University and major in Elementary Education.
Cameron Yohe
Cameron is the son of Chris and Jennifer Yohe. Cameron has participated in Football and baseball all 4 years, lettering in both all 4 years. He is a member of Junior Civitan and SAFE. Cameron is a member of the National Honor Society and has been on the honor roll all 4 years of high school. Cameron plans to further his academic and athletic career by studying agriculture while playing baseball in college, but he is undecided on where he will attend.
Emma Roberts
Emma is the daughter of Bill and Kayla Roberts and the youngest of 4 kids who have all attended and completed their education at Sacred Heart. Emma has been a member of the cross country team, for all 4 years, the track team for three years, and the women’s basketball manager for three years. She is the Mother Teresa community co-captain and has been a Community House leader every year. Emma has been in the yearbook for three years, band and pep band for four years and has made the high honor roll every year. She is a member of the National Honor Society, a council member of the Salina Catholic Youth Organization, a founder of Fiat Catholic Women's Group at Sacred Heart and a member of the Salina Diocese Youth Council. After high school, Emma plans to attend Benedictine College to further her formation and education, and she plans to major in Theology.
Luca Adami
Luca is an exchange student from Bergamo, Italy. He is the son of Stefano and Pierry Adami and the host son of Keegan and Mandy Wilson. While in the United States, Luca will participate in Football, Basketball and Tennis. Luca is most excited about being as involved as possible at Sacred Heart, making memories and building friendships that will last a lifetime. After his time in Salina, he will finish his final year of High school in Italy. He hopes to one day attend college in the U.S.
Gracy Dorzweiler
Gracy is the daughter of Steve and Angie Dorzweiler. She has been involved in volleyball, basketball and debate for two years, lettering one year each. She was a state medalist in debate for one year. She also has run cross country for three years, medaling as a team twice and as an individual once. She has been a part of the track team for three years, earning several medals, one of which was the state champion in the 4x800 meter relay. She has been on the leadership team all four years of high school, is a member of the senior cabinet and has been on the high honor roll all her years in high school. She is a member of the National Honor Society, S.A.F.E., Jr Civitan, Fiat, and Relay for Life. After high school, she plans on attending Washburn University, where she will run on their track and cross country team and major in marketing. She will then further her education by studying law.
Andy Marshall
Andy is the son of Lynn and Curt Marshall. He has participated in basketball for one year, powerlifting for three years, and football for four years, lettering all four years. He has also participated in the Scholars Bowl for three years, twice winning the 2A State Championship. He is the Senior Class President, Chess Club President, and Junior Civitan Club President. He plans to attend a four-year college to pursue pre-medicine.
