In 1948, the 2-minute sustained wind speed reached 80 mph at the Wichita Weather Bureau Office.

In 1954, Wichita set a July record high temperature when 113 degrees torched the city. Chanute and Salina also set record highs for the date. Chanute hit a hideously humid 115 while Salina sweat it out at 113.
