Derek Scott Whitesell, 45, was born Friday, May 16, 1975 in Salina to Carl and Cathy (French) Whitesell. He passed away Monday, April 5, 2021.
Derek was raised in Bennington and was a graduate of B.H.S. In March of 1996, he started working for APAC in Salina and in April 2018 he became a foreman to his milling crew. He was on his 25th year of being employed with APAC.
Derek loved his family and the time he spent with them on holidays and other special occasions. He would do anything for anyone – family or stranger. Derek couldn’t go anywhere without seeing someone he knew. He loved being outside. Dirt work, working on demolition cars, hunting, and racing were just a few of his hobbies.
Derek is survived by his parents, Doug and Cathy Hogan of Minneapolis; sister, Delaina List of Solomon; daughter, Sarah (Nathan) Armstrong of Fort Riley; grandsons, Isaiah Armstrong and Ezra Armstrong (due in September); nephews, Scott Berry of Solomon, Justin (Emily) Berry of Solomon, and Devin (Reagan) Dame of Salina; and great nieces and nephews, Ethan, Jetta, Jordin, Kaydence, Brynlee, Raelynn, and Sawyer.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, April 12 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 13 at the Bennington Bible Church, Bennington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s and may be left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467.
