On Tuesday evening, at approximately 6:20 p.m., officers from the Salina Police Department and Salina Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle crash just north of the intersection of Broadway Avenue and Crawford Street in Salina.
According to Salina Police Seargent Matt Gawith, a Dodge pickup exited the Dollar General parking lot at 654 South Broadway and lost control, crossing into the northbound lane and colliding with a northbound Ford Taurus.
According to Gawith, the driver of the Taurus, an 85-year-old Salina resident, had to be extracted from the vehicle by Salina firefighters and was transported to Salina Regional Health Center with injuries.
The pickup driver, identified as 42-year-old Joshua Renfro, fled the scene on foot but was later located and arrested on Haven Avenue in the 1500 block.
Renfro was booked into the Saline County Jail on the following requested charges, including driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Driving while suspended, failure to stop at an accident, injury or damage over $1000, no proof of insurance, failure to yield from a private road or driveway, reckless driving, no seat belt.
According to Saline County Jail records, Renfro was no longer being held at the jail as of 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 4.
The crash caused temporary traffic disruptions in the area as emergency crews worked to clear the scene.
