
John C Meuli Jr. of the Elmo community died peacefully surrounded by his loving family to meet his Lord and Savior on January 26, 2025.
He was born on July 9, 1935 as the first son of John and Ellen Meuli Sr. in Brownsville, Texas.
He was a graduate of Dickinson County (Chapman) High School Class of 1953. He loved his classmates and looked forward to his annual class reunion.
After attending one year of college at Plymouth, Wisconsin, he returned to help his dad on the farm.
He married the love of his life, Peggy (Missimer) on March 10, 1957 and they enjoyed life together for 67 ¾ years. Three daughters were born in Wichita, Ks while he worked 3 years building airplanes for Boeing.
Returning to Elmo he was hired as the feed mill operator at Carlton. In succeeding years he became branch manager at Dillon elevator where he late advanced to become the General manager of Carlton COOP.
He and Peggy purchased his grandfather’s farm in 1961 and became a farmer stockman.
In 1977 he began his own plumbing and trenching company, JP Co, for 43 years.
John was very active in the community as President of Rural Water District #2, President of Dickinson County farm Bureau, Trustee of Banner township, and held all positions on the New Basel Church council.
For 20 years he and his wife had a Choose and Cut Christmas tree patch. He was very proud to be a donor of 13 gallons of blood to the Red Cross.
He loved the Lord first, his family, and his farm with crops, cows and chickens.
Preceding him in death were his parents, John and Ellen Meuli. Survivors include his wife Peggy, his daughters Julie (Leslie) Wegele and their children Eli (Haley), Jordan Wegele, Maggie (Eddie) Christopher, Lorrie (Eric) Nelson and their children, Josiah (Niki), Jonah (Andrea), Jesse (Taylor), Judd Nelson, and Christine Meuli, siblings Margaret (Ron) Shouse, Kathleen (Brant) Rader, and Steve (Jackie, deceased) Meuli, fourteen great grandchildren, eleven nieces plus one nephew, many other cousins, extended family and dear friends..
Services will be 10:30 am, Saturday, February 1, 2025 at New Basel Church south of Abilene with Pastor Jamie Bonnema officiating. John’s final resting place will be in the New Basel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Friday evening at the Danner Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be given to New Basel Church and may be sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home 501 N. Buckeye, Abilene, Kansas 67410.
