The Salina Central Lady Mustang season came to an unfortunate end tonight in the state semi final at the hands of the Andover Central Lady Jaguars.
SC got out to an early lead and built on it throughout the first half, taking a 28-19 lead into the break against the undefeated Lady Jags.
That confidence would allow the Lady Mustangs to start the second half on a run, extending their lead to 15 halfway through the third quarter.
Andover Central stuck around and began to chip away at the Mustang advantage little by little, taking their first lead of the game at 45-44 with just 4:40 left in the game.
Salina Central battled hard down the stretch but couldn’t get into a rhythm late, falling to the Lady Jags by a final score of 65-56.
Andover Central will advance to the state championship game on Saturday to face the winner between 18-2 St. Thomas Aquinas and 19-3 Lansing on Saturday.
The Lady Mustangs 2020-21 season will come to an end at 19-5, but the team will return all but one player and 97% of the teams scoring next season, making Salina Central a force to be reckoned with in 2021-22.
With the Mustangs out, all 18 of our area teams have now completed their basketball seasons. Thank you for staying tuned to the Salina Post for our coverage of all of our area schools throughout the sub-state and state tournaments.
