Sam’s life began on August 10, 1932, in Wiley, Colorado. He was the son of Harry and Amanda (Hamm) Schwemmer. Sam was a 1950 graduate of Towanda High School. He attended Wichita Business College in September of 1950. Sam served his country in the United States National Guard starting in 1948 until his honorable discharge as Captain in 1967. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Beth Mosier at the Towanda Methodist Church on December 7, 1952.

Sam was a stockman and farmer while working at Coleman of Wichita until he retired to become a full-time farmer in the rural Towanda area for the rest of his life. He was a member of Palmyra Baptist Church, rural Benton, KS serving as Deacon, treasure, trustee, and a teacher. His pride was overseeing the Sausage-Pancake Supper for numerous years.

His loving family surviving him includes children Craig and Roxanne Waltman of Towanda, Ed and Nancy Wait of Benton, Neil and Susan Schwemmer of Augusta and Rodney and Cathy Schwemmer of Augusta. Grandchildren include Chad and Jennifer Waltman, Jenna and Jake Myers, Staci Wait, Aubrie and Trever Lockamy, Courtney and Aaron Powers, Ashley and Brendon Mannix, Heath and Kelsey Kennemer, Evan and Jordan Schwemmer, Trevor and Ashley Schwemmer and Madison Schwemmer: 18 great grandchildren, brother Gib and Wilma Schwemmer, sister-in-law Helen and Connie Terrell, great nephew, Russell Bliss and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sam passed away Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Via Christi St. Francis Harry Hynes Hospice in Wichita, KS. He is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy, parents, Harry and Amanda, brothers Eldon, Bud, Doc, sister Evelyn Bradbury and grandson Mark Wait.

Sam’s family will gather with friends on Tuesday May 7, 2024, from 5 p.m.  to 7 p.m. at Palmyra Baptist Church. Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday May 8, 2024, at Palmyra Baptist Church, Benton, KS. Burial to follow at Green Valley Cemetery.  Lamb Funeral Home, Whitewater is serving the family.
