
Sister Vivian Boucher died March 29, 2025, at Nazareth Motherhouse in Concordia, KS. She was 94 years old and a Sister of St. Joseph for 78 years. She was born in Zurich, KS, on February 19, 1931, to Hector and Cecelia Gagnon Boucher, the fourth of ten children, and was baptized Rita Marie. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph, Concordia, KS on September 8, 1946. On March 18, 1947, Rita Marie received the habit of the Sisters of St. Joseph and was given the name Sister Vivian. She pronounced first vows on March 19, 1948 and final vows on February 19, 1952.
In 1965 Sister Vivian Boucher graduated from Marymount College, Salina, with a A.B. degree in math followed by a M.A. in 1982 in Administration from College of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN. She taught and was principal in institutions staffed by the Sisters of St. Joseph in New Almelo, Concordia, Plainville, Junction City, Beloit, Leawood and Hanover, KS; Chicago, IL; Grand Island, NE; Glasgow, MO and Papillion, NE. In 2007 Sister Vivian retired from teaching but continued to live in Papillion, NE. Sister Vivian moved to the Motherhouse in 2021.
Sister Vivian Boucher was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters and three brothers. She is survived by two brothers, Kenneth and Leroy Boucher. A Bible Vigil Service will be held April 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the Nazareth Motherhouse Chapel with Sister Jean Rosemarynoski as the eulogist. The Mass of Christian Burial will be April 3 at 10:30 a.m. in the Motherhouse, Chapel Father Barry Brinkman presiding. The burial will be in the Nazareth Motherhouse Cemetery.
