THE SERIES
- KWU has won the last three against Bethany including a 57-47 victory on January 22 inside Mabee Arena. The Coyotes won both games last season and lead the series 28-13 since 2005.
- Wesleyan has won the last two games, four of the last six and 13 of the last 16 against Ottawa. The Coyotes eked out an 83-81 victory over the Braves on November 13 and lead the series 30-14 since 2006.
KANSAS WESLEYAN AT A GLANCE
- The Coyotes clinched at least a share of the KCAC title and a berth in the NAIA National Championship with a 106-54 rout of Southwestern on Saturday in Mabee Arena. KWU, picked fifth in the coaches' preseason poll, has a two-game lead over Friends and Tabor with two games left in the regular season and has the tiebreakers over both should there be a tie at the end.
- Five Coyotes scored in double figures - Paige Chauncey 16, LaMyah Ricks 15, Cat Bowman 14, Angel Lee 11 and Jocelyn Hall 10. KWU won the rebounding battle 59-29, was 14 of 36 from 3-point range and limited Southwestern to 29.5 percent shooting. The Coyotes defeated Bethel 63-61 on Thursday in North Newton as Lee hit the game-winning shot with 2.3 seconds left.
- Lee scored 14 and KWU held Bethany to 26 percent shooting in the first game this season. The Coyotes led 42-27 after three quarters. Ricks had 15 points, Chauncey 13, Jill Stephens 12 and KWU withstood Ottawa's fourth-quarter rally. Wesleyan led 64-51 after three quarters.
BETHANY AT A GLANCE
- The Swedes have lost their last two games after winning four in a row. They lost to Evangel 76-66 on Saturday in Lindsborg and Tabor 68-64 on Thursday in Hillsboro.
- Senior Jaden Newfarmer leads the team in scoring (13.3) and rebounding (8.6). Janae Black-Harmon is second in both (10.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and had 25 points and nine rebounds off the bench against Evangel on Saturday.
- Bethany averages 65 points and allows 66. The Swedes are shooting 39.4 percent overall, 26.7 percent from 3-point range and 66 percent from the free throw line. They average just under 18 turnovers per game.
OTTAWA AT A GLANCE
- The Braves have lost three in a row and 14 of the last 17. They lost to Oklahoma Wesleyan 69-58 last Wednesday in Bartlesville, Okla. and 75-70 to Bethel on Saturday in Ottawa. They endured a 10-game losing streak that began December 2 and ended January 25.
- Opponents average 75.3 points while the Braves average 71. OU is shooting 37.3 percent, 29.4 percent from deep and getting outrebounded by five per game.
- Guard Nora Ford is the top scorer (12.9 points) followed by guard Dominque Schutte (11.6) and forward Abbie Sextro (11.2). Sextro also averages 6.2 rebounds. Janiyah Hendricks scored 23 and Kennedy Bankett 20 in the first game against KWU. Bankett averaged a team-best 14.3 points last season but left the team in November.
