The Southeast of Saline Lady Trojan basketball team won their third straight game tonight in convincing fashion, knocking off the Ellsworth Lady Bearcats 54-19.
With this win, SES advances to 8-5 on the year while Ellsworth falls to 2-10.
The Trojans faced a new look on defense, which took some time to settle into, but once they did they never looked back, taking a commanding 34-5 lead into the half.
“We knew they were going to play us in a zone the whole night and that’s the first time we’ve dealt with that so we worked in practice on ways we could counter that,” SES head coach Shauna Smith said. “I thought we never let up, which is easy to do when you go into halftime with the score being what it was.”
The Southeast offense was led once again by Karsyn Schlesener who finished with 15 in the winning effort.
Schlesener was assisted by eight other Trojans including a new career high from Reagan Goetz, who dropped eight points including six in the second quarter.
“If you’re a guard oriented team like we are, it’s great that anyone can lead us in scoring on any given night,” Smith said. “We were due to have a really good shooting night at some point.”
Defensively, SES played immaculately, allowing just five points in the first half and muting the Ellsworth offense in the second quarter allowing zero points.
The Lady Trojans will be back in action next Tuesday when they take on 7-3 Sacred Heart in a matchup that may have league implications down the road.
