SALINA - Ruth L. Jennings went on to eternal rest on August 17, 2021 in Salina, Kansas. Ruth was born in Tipton, Kansas on March 6, 1938 to Mark and Christina (Konzem) Hake. Ruth and her eight siblings were raised on a farm near Tipton, KS. She graduated from St. Boniface Catholic School in Tipton.
After high school, Ruth moved to Salina and met her husband, Robert (Bob) L. Jennings, at a SYAC dance. They were married April 6, 1959.
Over the years, Ruth worked at Gibson's Discount Center, Capital Federal Savings and Kmart, retiring in 1998. In addition to working outside her home, Ruth assisted Bob with the operation of a horse stable, raising farm animals, milking cows and many remodeling projects before and after her retirement.
Ruth was a parent volunteer in the Willing Workers 4-H Club during her children's years in 4-H. Ruth also enjoyed gardening, sewing, embroidery and quilting. She sewed clothing for her children and created treasured dolls, stuffed animals and quilts for her family and friends. Ruth was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Preceding her in death were her husband Bob; parents; step-father Claude McKnight; sisters Charlene Marek and Elaine Parrack; sister-in-law Mary Kay Hake; brother-in-law Marvin Parrack; step-brother Jack McKnight, and two nephews.
Ruth is survived by her children Bobbie Bengtson (Greg), Ronald Jennings and Randy Jennings (Becky); grandchildren Anton Bengtson (Betsy), Katie Winberg (Ryan), Blaine Bengtson (fiancée, Stephanie), Justin Bengtson, Abby Jennings, David Jennings (Brooke), Stephanie Jennings, Melissa Jennings, Chantel Schuster, and Audrey Mendez (Tony); great-grandchildren Tilly Bengtson, Theodore Bengtson, Oliver Winberg, Franklin Winberg, Effie Winberg, and Ruthie Morse; brothers Jerome Hake (Fay), Alan Hake (Vera), Leon Hake (Gail) and Meldon Hake; sisters Marilyn Balaun (Larry) and Karen Walters (Harry); step-sister-in-law Tess McKnight.
Out of concern regarding COVID-19, a private family service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on September 4, 2021 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Salina, KS. For others wishing to observe the service, a remote link will be provided by Ryan Mortuary within Ruth's obituary. There will be no visitation.
