A highly recognizable pickup that was stolen from a north Salina customs shop was later found a number of blocks away.
Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning that an orange 1977 Chevrolet Silverado belonging to a 67-year-old Salina man had been parked at Calvin Customs & Hot Rod Repair, 325 N. Santa Fe Avenue, for a number of years. The owner of the customs shop received a call asking whether the pickup had been sold. When he replied "no," the caller informed him that the pickup was parked in the 600 block of N. Seventh Street with its hood up.
The owner of the customs shop then went to the location and confirmed that the pickup was the one from his lot, Forrester said. The pickup is valued at $5,000.
Forrester said it is believed that the pickup was taken between March 1 and Sunday. It was located on N. Seventh Street on Sunday.
The steering column was damaged and the hood was bent, he said. Damage was estimated at $700.
