TULSA, Okla. — The Wichita Wind Surge (26-32) fell 3-2 to the Tulsa Drillers (33-25) in the opener of a six-game series Tuesday night at ONEOK Field despite a strong start from Adrian Bohorquez and home runs from Jaime Ferrer and Brandon Winokur.
Ferrer paced the offense, launching his sixth home run of the season, a solo shot that traveled 450 feet, while extending his on-base streak to 10 games. Winokur also went deep, swatting his 11th homer of the season to leave the yard in back-to-back games.
On the mound, Bohorquez turned in a strong outing, allowing one run on one hit over four innings while striking out four. The lone hit he surrendered was a solo homer in the bottom of the second.
THE RUNDOWN
The Wind Surge opened the scoring in the top of the first when Winokur smashed a solo homer, his 11th of the season, to give Wichita an early 1-0 lead.
The Drillers responded in the bottom of the second, launching a solo homer to straightaway center field to tie the game at 1-1.
Bohorquez finished his outing after four innings, allowing one run on one hit while striking out four. The solo homer in the second was the only hit he allowed.
Wichita regained the lead in the top of the fifth when Ferrer launched a solo homer, his sixth of the season, 450 feet to left field to put the Wind Surge ahead 2-1.
Tulsa answered in the bottom of the sixth, using a walk, a double and a single to plate two runs and take a 3-2 lead.
The Wind Surge could not mount a comeback in the late innings, falling 3-2 in the series opener.
