The long-awaited elevator renovation is beginning at the Dickinson County Courthouse this week, and is expected to take approximately 12 weeks.
While the stairs still are available, people who need assistance to reach the top floor should let the security guards at the entrance know and arrangements will be made to transport them using the jail elevator.
Dickinson County District Court and the Dickinson County Attorney’s office are located on the top floor.
Visitors needing elevator access to basement offices - including the appraiser, planning and zoning, emergency management and GIS (Geographic Information Services) - should call those departments to make arrangements.
The appraiser’s office can be reached at (785) 263-4418; planning and zoning at (785) 263-4464; emergency management at (785) 263-3608; and GIS at (785) 263-3120.
Other departments in the courthouse will not be affected by the elevator renovation.
The elevator, which is original to the courthouse built in 1956, is the final major project to be completed as part of the courthouse renovation.
