Morningside sweeps KWU men's volleyball

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Kansas Wesleyan men's volleyball was swept by the Morningside Mustangs on Thursday night 25-7, 25-14, 25-14 at the Rosen-Verdoorn Sports Center.

In the opening set the Coyotes fell behind 5-1 early but got back within two points at 6-4 and trailed 12-7 when Morningside's offense got going in a big way. The Mustangs scored the last 13 points of the set to take the opener.

The Coyotes bounced back to take an early 5-1 lead in the second set and were leading 6-2 when Morningside used a 6-1 run of its own to take an 8-7 lead. The Mustangs pushed their lead out to 15-9 but took control with a later 5-0 run that made it 20-11.

Wesleyan fell behind 11-4 in the third set and couldn't recover.

Christopher Perez (FR/Denver, Colo.) had six kills to lead the Coyotes, who hit negative-.121 for the match. Perez, Victor Loya (SO/El Paso, Texas) and Jerry Chablay (FR/South Hackensack, N.J.) all had five digs each. Viet Nguyen (FR/Wichita, Kan.) had five total blocks, two of them solo.

KWU heads to Ottawa on Wednesday in its next match.
