Central Kansas Mental Health Center (CKMHC) is offering a Youth Mental Health First Aid training session on Tuesday, November 26, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the CKMHC Crossroads Building at 800 Elmhurst Blvd in Salina.
This skills-based training is designed for parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, and health and human services workers.
Participants will learn how to identify, understand, and respond to adolescents ages 12–18 who may be experiencing mental health challenges or substance use issues.
What Youth Mental Health First Aid Covers
• Common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges in this age group, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD).
• Common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges.
• How to interact with a child or adolescent in crisis.
• How to connect the youth with help.
• Expanded content on trauma, substance use, self-care and the impact of social media and bullying
