THE SERIES
- The Coyotes have won five of the last six and 15 of the last 17 against Sterling. The teams played once last season with KWU winning 87-74 January 17 in Sterling. The Coyotes lead the series 23-15 since December 2005.
- KWU has won five in a row and 10 of 11 against Friends. Last season the Coyotes cruised 99-78 November 15 inside Mabee Arena and prevailed 86-76 in overtime January 27 in Wichita. Friends leads the series 23-19 since January 2006.
KANSAS WESLEYAN AT A GLANCE
- The Coyotes went into the Thanksgiving break having lost three of four games but rebounded in grand style with a 71-70 non-conference victory over Wayland Baptist on Saturday in Plainview, Texas. Easton Hunter led the offense with 14 points while Izaiah Hale and sophomore point guard Tucker Bowman had 12 each. Alex Littlejohn added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Bowman's total was a career best in his second start of the season.
- Littlejohn leads the team in scoring (16.2 points) and rebounding (11.0). Hunter is second in scoring (13.0) and is shooting 50 percent (23 of 46) from beyond the 3-point arc. Evens Appolon averages 7.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and is shooting 62.5 percent from the field.
- KWU averages 75 points, shoots 43.6 percent overall (35 percent from long range), 72 percent from the foul line and has a minus-3 rebounding deficit. Opponents average 71 points and are shooting 40 percent (32 percent from deep).
STERLING AT A GLANCE
- The Warriors lost to Avila 60-51 in Kansas City in their last game before the break. The loss ended a six-game winning streak. Sterling has KCAC victories at York (79-70) and at home against Bethany (88-77).
- Jayden Garrison is the leading scorer (15.1 points) followed by Mooch Austin (14.1) and Damond Daniels (12.7). Austin shoots 45.5 percent and Garrison 41 percent beyond the arc. Elias Ngoga, a 6-foot-10 center, averages a team-best 6.4 rebounds - 9.3 against KCAC opponents.
- Sterling averages 78 points and shoots 43 percent overall, 37.4 percent from the 3-point line and 78 percent at the foul line.
FRIENDS AT A GLANCE
- The Falcons have been an early-season surprise. They trounced York 103-67 and Division II opponent Northwestern Oklahoma State 92-71 on the road in their last two games before the break. They also defeated Evangel 83-72 in Springfield, Mo. in their KCAC opener and lost to preseason favorite Oklahoma Wesleyan 82-58 in Bartlesville, Okla.
- Forward K.J. Spiller averages a team-best 17.7 points with Randy Woolf Jr. (11.9) and Cahlese Lee (11.1) next. Spiller also leads the team in rebounding (7.7).
- Friends averages 88.6 points and shoots 50.6 percent overall, 38 percent from 3-point range. Opponents average 69 points and shoot 41 percent.
