Boys & Girls Club of Salina announces new facility and plans before launching

The newly Boys & Girls Club of Salina (BGCS) is anticipating and preparing for their own building that is expected to come in 2027.

BGCS Director, Heather Neuhofel-Tracy stated the organization plans on establishing the facility at the Bondy field complex, specifically at the northwest corner and south of Sunset Park. 

With the proposed property being City owned, BGCS will receive support from the City of Salina such as, establishment of a long-term lease agreement for the portion, just south of Sunset Park. Platting and rezoning of the property. Extension of water and sewer services to the property line. Grounds maintenance and snow removal. Formal partnership to guide the collaborative agreement.

On Thursday, October 9 at 5:30 pm, BGCS will hold a community meeting at the Friendship Center (746 Commanche Ave) to discuss the project and receive feedback from the public.

Neuhofel-Tracy stated the goal for groundbreaking is for Spring 2026.

Summer 2027 is the goal for the facility to open.

The organization is expected to start an after school services/programs by the end of this year. Once they start, BGCS will temporarily operate inside Oakdale Elementary serving 3rd - 5th graders. 

The programs will include academic enrichment, health & wellness, sports, recreational activities and more. 

Completion of the new facility will expand service opportunities to middle and high school aged youth.

BGCS are actively fundraising for this project and from now until the end of the year. Every dollar given toward their endowment at Greater Salina Community Foundation, will be matched for operations by the Ted and Almita Augustine Donor Advised Fund with a goal of getting $500,000 in matching funds to support this project.
