The Saline County Sheriff's Department will continue its Prescription Drug Take Back Day program from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, allowing anyone to drop off unused prescriptions.
The two locations include Dillons at 1235 E. Cloud Street and Walmart at 2900 S. Ninth Street.
Sheriff's Office staff will meet at Dillons on Cloud Street and Walmart on Ninth Street to pick up and properly dispose of unused drugs from the community.
According to Sheriff's Department Lieutenant Sean Kochanowski, the department does not view any contents in the drop-off event and dispose of them in a buried location in Salina's landfill.
"We've taken in over 10,000 pounds worth of drugs, so it's a good program," Kochanowski said. "We do get a lot of stuff brought back to us."
Since 2013, when the program began, sheriff's department staff have collected 13,442.41 pounds of drugs.
