A Salina man was arrested after a reported domestic disturbance allegedly involving a box cutter and a rifle.
Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester reported this morning that officers were sent to a reported domestic disturbance where a gun had been discharged in the 100 block of West Jewell Avenue at approximately 11 p.m. Friday. Upon arrival, they were told that a suspect named Kenny was outside the residence.
According to Forrester, it was reported that the suspect had been drinking all day and had gotten into an argument. A 34-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man who were the reported victims made the suspect leave.
The victims used a rope to tie the front door shut. The suspect returned and attempted to gain entry into the residence by using a box cutter to cut the rope. The male victim attempted to keep the door shut, but the suspect was allegedly swinging the box cutter. The male victim let go of the door and suspect allegedly lunged at the male with the box cutter, Forrester reported. A physical altercation ensued.
The suspect then allegedly went to his bedroom and retrieved a .50 caliber black powder rifle and had it pointed out the doorway at the male victim, Forrester explained. The male victim grabbed the barrel to move it from being pointed at him. The gun discharged into the floor next to the male. The subject then left the residence.
A search warrant was executed at the residence. The suspect, identified as Kenneth Shotts, 52, of Salina, was arrested on the following requested charges, Forrester noted.
Aggravated assault
Damage to property
Possession of marijuana
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Distribution of methamphetamine
