The undefeated Southeast of Saline football team will wrap up their regular season in Scott City as they travel to take on the 4-3 Beavers.

The Trojans secured a District Six title last week with a win over Smoky Valley and a Scott City loss at the hands of Colby.

“I think our guys are still hungry,” Trojan head coach Mitch Gebhardt said. “We were excited to win our district but on Monday we were excited to get ready for our next opponent.”

While SES may not have much to play for in this game, the team hasn’t changed anything in their preparation, and is looking to cap off their second straight undefeated regular season.

“We still want to go out there and play a good football game,” Gebhardt said. “We have kids that put in the work to go play on a Friday night and that’s exactly what we want to do.”

While this game won’t change much for Southeast, there is still a good deal on the table for the Beavers, who could still host their playoff opener with a win and losses from Russell and Colby this week.

Despite this being a bit of a down year for Scott City, the team is still recognized across the state as a perennial football power, and still very much garners the respect of SES.

“It’s still Scott City,” he said. “They have a very good football tradition and we know we’re going to get the best that they have. We always expect those kids to play hard.”

The Beavers once again rely on a run-heavy offense that much like Colby, mixes in the pass enough to keep opposing defenses off balance.

This game could potentially provide another opportunity for SES to flex its youth, as a number of key contributors have come out of the woodwork to add depth to an already loaded roster.

“I’ve really been impressed with how some of our younger guys have stepped up on offense,” he said. “We’ve had guys that have been hurt and we’ve always had kids step in and do an outstanding job and that really adds to our depth.”

Kickoff between the Trojans and Beavers is scheduled for 7pm at Scott City High School and as always the game can be heard on KINA (910 AM or 107.5 FM) or streamed on the Salina Post.
