Proclamations, citizen board appointments, and housing matters are among the items on the Salina City Commission agenda for Monday.
About the meeting
Study Sessions and City Commission meetings will take place in–person at the City/County Building in Room 107 and via Zoom until further notice. Meetings can be viewed at the City of Salina YouTube channel, https://www.youtube.com/cityofSalinaKansas.
To participate via Zoom, citizens will need to use the following link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89275984587.
The meeting can also be accessed by phone at 1-346-248-7799. Enter Meeting ID: 892 7598 4587 when prompted.
If citizens wish to speak, either during the public forum or when the mayor requests public comment on an item, citizens attending via Zoom must raise their hand so that the meeting host can allow them to speak. Those who attend the in-person meeting will have the opportunity to speak at the podium.
Citizens can also send written comments or questions to City Commissioners by visiting the City of Salina’s website at www.salina-ks.gov and using the “Email City Commission” icon on the home page.
In order for the commissioners to have an opportunity to review comments in advance of the meeting, please email your comments or questions by 5 p.m. the Sunday prior to the Monday meetings
Study session
Commissioners are scheduled to meet in a study session at 3 p.m. Monday. The topic of the study session is a Community Housing Development Corporation update.
Regular meeting
The regular meeting is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
Commissioners are scheduled to consider the following four proclamation requests.
●Recognize the month of April 2023 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in the City of Salina. Jenni Seitz, director of community engagement for Child Advocacy & Parenting Services, Inc., is scheduled to read the proclamation.
●Recognize the week of April 23-29, 2023 as National Library Week in the City of Salina. Melanie Hedgespeth, director of the Salina Public Library, is scheduled to read the proclamation.
●Recognize April 28, 2023, as Arbor Day in the City of Salina. Justin Turner, vice chair of the Tree Advisory Board, is scheduled to read the proclamation.
●Recognize the week of April 30-May 6, 2023, as Small Business Appreciation Week in the City of Salina. Leslie Bishop, executive director of Salina Downtown, Inc., is scheduled to read the proclamation.
Commissioners also are scheduled to consider the following appointments to citizen boards.
Board of Zoning Appeals
Ken Krier, appointed until Aug. 31
Building Advisory Board
Lance Smith, appointed until Aug. 31
Library Board
Crystal Stuart, appointed until April 30, 2025
Judy Nold, reappointed until April 30, 2027
Selvan Raman, appointed until April 30, 2027
City Planning Commission
Kenneth Wasserman, appointed until Aug. 31
Two items concerning the Cedar Ridge Addition also are on the commission agenda for Monday.
Commissioners are scheduled to consider certification of final costs for 2022 Special Assessment Projects and setting a May 15, 2023, public hearing.
Additionally, commissioners are scheduled to consider approving on first reading a proposed ordinance that would levy special assessments for improvements and establish that such assessments be collected in annual installments over 20 years.
Commissioners also are scheduled to consider authorizing the city manager to reimburse Platte River Communities of Centennial, Colo., an amount not to exceed $63,005.13 for a public water main extension serving the North End Manufactured Home Park.
