A pickup owner surprised an alleged burglar early this morning in central Salina.
Officers were sent to the 800 block of S. 11th Street for the report of a vehicle burglary in progress, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester reported this morning. While the officers were on their way to the location, they were advised that the alleged burglar was running east on Wilson Street.
He was described as a white male wearing a beanie, dark clothing, and a backpack, Forrester noted.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:20 a.m. Thursday.
The owner of the 2017 Ford F-150 pickup, a 58-year-old Salina man, told officers that he was leaving his residence and was loading some items into the pickup. When he opened the back door of the pickup, the white male exited from the driver's side door and fled on foot, Forrester reported. The pickup owner attempted to follow the person but lost sight of him.
According to Forrester, items missing from the pickup include a battery charger bank for a phone, two handgun magazines, and a box of 9mm ammunition. Total loss was estimated at $100.
