
UPDATE noon Tuesday: The National Weather Service has extended most of the heat advisories through Thursday evening. Those times have been adjusted below.
Multiple heat advisories have been issued for counties in our area on Tuesday.
The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a heat advisory in effect from noon Tuesday to 8 p.m. Thursday for the following counties in our area.
Lincoln County
Marion County
McPherson County
Saline County
Heat index values from 103 to 105 are expected.
Additionally, a heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service in Topeka remains in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday for the following counties in our area.
Clay County
Cloud County
Dickinson County
Ottawa County
Heat index values are expected to peak from 105 to 109 degrees today and Wednesday and approximately 105 on Thursday.
The National Weather Service in Topeka also has issued a heat advisory in effect from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday for Republic County.
Heat index values are forecast to br spproximately 105.
The National Weather Service in Hastings, Neb., has issued a heat advisory in effect from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday for the following counties in our area.
Jewell County
Mitchell County
Heat index values as high as 104 to 108 degrees are forecast.
Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.
