In 1879, a tornado outbreak struck Kansas and Western Missouri.
In north-central Kansas, tornadoes killed 18 in Delphos and 30 in Irving.
Two tornadoes struck Irving within a few minutes of each other, virtually wiping the small Kansas community off the map. The second tornado was huge, around 2 miles wide, and had multiple vortices.
