
Rosalind “Kay” (Gates) Shortt, age 82, entered into rest on Saturday, August 02, 2025, at her home in Concordia, Kansas. She was born on July 03, 1943, at Beloit Hospital, Beloit, Kansas to Raymond Edmond and Marjorie Irene (Rexroat) Gates.
Kay was a proud graduate of Downs High School where she was president of Kayettes, a cheerleader and Homecoming Queen. She completed many art classes throughout her life.
Kay married Larry Russell Getty on June 3, 1962, and they later divorced. She was later remarried to Larry Shortt on March 26, 2009.
She spent many years working for medical offices as a dental assistant, physician's assistant, and receptionist. She later worked as an administrative assistant in the loan department of Fidelity Savings before her retirement.
Kay was a talented painter, in both watercolors and oils. She passed this artistic gift to granddaughter Sierra, and great-granddaughter, Emrie. She also loved recreating recipes from cooking shows she enjoyed. She enjoyed reading. However, her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren, who loved sharing laughter, shopping outings, and funny stories of their childhoods with her.
Kay is survived by her daughter, Lisa and husband Steve Garner of Derby, KS. Her treasured sister and caretaker, Pat and husband Bob Burns of Concordia, KS. Four grandchildren, Sierra McRae, Erin McRae, husband Michael Zammit and grandson, Evan Garner, all of Wichita. Great-granddaughter Emrie Edwards of Wichita. Nephew Andy Burns and wife Ashley of Moyock, NC, and their sons Eli, Jace and Liam. Countless beloved cousins and dear friends, Carol Trexler and Lari McCullough. Her faithful feline companion, Mindy, provided comfort to her until the end.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Marjorie Gates and her husband, Larry Shortt.
Visitation will be held before service time Friday, August 08, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. ~ 10:30 a.m. at the Concordia Wesleyan Church, Concordia, Kansas.
The Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 08, 2025, at Concordia Wesleyan Church, Concordia, Kansas with Pastor Bob Burns and Pastor Josh Blain officiating.
The burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Concordia, Kansas.
