On Thursday October 6, 2022, Karen Melita Kliewer of rural Canton, Kansas, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away. She was 72 years old.
She was born to Jack and Lila (Dodge) Hatfield in Kingman, Kansas on September 19, 1950.
After graduating from Kingman High School she attended Salt City Business College in Hutchinson, majoring in business administration. There she met Don Kliewer of Canton. The two were married in Canton on October 24, 1969. The couple was blessed with two sons, Danny and Jack.
As the boys grew up, all of the neighborhood boys simply called her "Mom." Karen enjoyed cheering on her boys during football games; she was always their biggest fan and loudest supporter in the stands.
She was employed by the McPherson County Farm Service Agency for 15 years and the Hillsboro Co-Op for 10 years. Karen was a member of the Canton Community Church.
Survivors include her husband Don of the home; her two sons, Danny of Wichita and Jack and his wife Sandy of Moundridge; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A brother, Harlan Hatfield preceded her in death.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at the Canton Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at Olson's Mortuary, Canton.
A memorial has been established with Good Shepherd Hospice, in care of the mortuary.
