UPDATE: Area counties moved to red flag warnings

UPDATE 8 a.m. Saturday: Some counties in our area have been moved to red flag warning.

The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a red flag warning for extreme grassland fire danger, which is in effect from noon to 7 p.m. CDT Saturday for the following counties in our area.

Ellsworth County

Lincoln County

The fire weather watch is no longer in effect.

Winds from the southwest at 25 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph, and relative humidity as low as 14 percent are forecast.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly and become very difficult to control, the weather service noted. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

The National Weather Service in Hastings, Neb., has issued a red flag warning in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday for the following counties in our area.

Jewell County

Mitchell County

Winds from the southwest then shifting to west at 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph, and relative humidity as low as 15 percent are forecast.

Any fires that ignite may spread rapidly and exhibit extreme fire behavior. Use extreme caution if engaging in activities that could result in fire ignition.

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a red flag warning in effect from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday for the following counties in our area.

Cloud County

Ottawa County

Republic County

Southwest winds sustained at 25 to 35 mph, with gusts to around 50 mph shifting to the west at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph in the evening are forecast. Minimum relative humidity is forecst to be 17 to 20 percent.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a red flag warning in effect from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday that includes Clay County.

Southwest winds sustained at 25 to 35 mph, with gusts to around 50 mph shifting to the west at 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph in the evening are forecast. Minimum relative humidity is forecst to be 17 to 22 percent.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.
